How do I increase the volume of my speaking voice? 

When I talk to my friends they ask me to repeat, or they just can’t hear and I feel ignored.

 There'll be times when I’ll have to speak up, in conferences or with colleagues. I need to do something.

1. Breathing Techniques

Not being audible was the first feedback from the correspondent of the school where I started my teaching career. The main reason why I faced the problem was that I did not have the practice of speaking aloud at home and even with my friends.
  • Then, I started to speak aloud. In the beginning, it caused coughing. However, I did not give up. In a year. I was audible to my students.
  • B. In your case, you may be soft-spoken and may not speak aloud at home. Moreover, you are a man of few words, so you listen more than you speak.
  • You too can speak aloud. If you have a separate room at home, lock the door from inside with you alone being inside it. Then, stand in front of a mirror and practise speaking aloud. In due course, you will be audible. Get feedback from your friends or relatives.

  • If you want to be able to speak louder, then you have to make a habit of speaking louder.

    Of course, like with any exercise meant to strengthen muscles, your intensity (volume) should increase over time, and you should continue pushing your voice louder and louder until you are satisfied with the results. This probably can be done in a week or two, considering that you are trying to speak at a normal level, not yelling into a gymnasium with loaded bleachers.

    However, singing exercises can help you gain control over your voice, so that you aren’t always shouting your words.

    Another factor is your pronunciation. You have to speak clearly for others to clearly understand you; being loud and mumbly helps nobody.
