• Narendra (later Swami Vivekananda) first met Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa in November 1881 at the Kali Temple in Dakshineshwar.

  • He first heard of Ramakrishna from his English professor, William Hastie. 
  • The Meeting: Narendra visited Ramakrishna, who was initially so overwhelmed with divine ecstasy upon seeing the young man that he began to weep. 
  • The Interaction: Ramakrishna affectionately seated Narendra, offered him food, and asked him to sing.
  •  Moved by the young man's voice and intellect, Ramakrishna touched him. Narendra claimed he experienced a bizarre, mystical sensation where the world vanished and he became terrified. 
  • The Transformation: Narendra, initially bewildered, tested the master's claims and teachings constantly. 
  • Over time, Ramakrishna's profound spirituality and unconditional love won Narendra over.
  •  He became his devoted disciple, leading to the eventual formation of the Ramakrishna Mission.
